Senator Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson), co-author of the “Sexually Violent Predator Accountability, Fairness, and Enforcement Act” (SAFE Act), is vehemently opposing the placement of a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) in Sutter Creek, near her hometown of Jackson, CA. The act, also authored by Senate Minority Leader, Brian Jones, Senator Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield), Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (R-Yuba City), and Assemblymember Megan Dahle (R-Bieber) has been created to ensure that community safety remains the highest priority and that the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) conducts their due diligence in finding a safe and suitable accommodations for these offenders instead of placing them in vulnerable communities.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson) announced that she is introducing SB 739, new legislation that will impact more than 284,000 students that attend charter public schools by extending the charter renewal period by an additional two years, a protection that was first put in place by Governor Newsom and the Legislature in 2021 to mitigate disruption to students early in the pandemic, particularly in low-income communities.

Senator Alvarado-Gil, representing a primarily rural district where gas prices significantly impact household budgets and small business, put the interests of her constituents first and voted against SBx1 2. The bill, which was fast-tracked through the legislative process, would grant unyielding power to an unelected state commission to impose unprecedented regulatory actions.

Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (SD-4) took a major step toward disrupting organized crime in the illicit fentanyl trade by introducing SB 226, which would make it a felony to possess fentanyl while carrying a loaded, operable firearm. Up until now, only methamphetamine, crack, cocaine, heroin, and PCP were specifically listed under the law banning simultaneous possession of a loaded firearm and drugs. SB 226 would correct this oversight by recognizing that fentanyl, over 50 times more powerful than heroin, should be included on that list

Corporal Ronil Singh of the Newman Police department was fatally shot after pulling over a suspected drunk driver on Christmas Eve 2018. Cpl. Singh was born in Fiji, but immigrated to the US in 2003 and joined the Newman police force in 2011. He left behind a wife and baby boy.

Today, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution presented by Senator Alvarado-Gil to proclaim February 16 as California Almond Day. If you eat an almond anywhere in the world, there’s an 80% chance it was grown in California, and if you are in US, that figure rises to 100%.
