Week in Review Across Senate District 4
Celebrating Women in Manufacturing, Supporting Veterans, and MORE
Another week at the State Capitol spent meeting with my constituents, stakeholders, and voicing your concerns in the Legislature.
I’d like to first extend my appreciation to the California Manufacturers and Technology Association (CMTA) for giving me the opportunity to deliver the keynote address at their 3rd Annual Women MakingCA Conference. The event showcased the remarkable achievements and indispensable contributions of women within California’s manufacturing sector.
I met with Bill Johnson this week, a distinguished member of the Stanislaus County Veterans Advisory Commission and a Vietnam War veteran, and presented him with a certificate of recognition for his service. Bill and his commission are diligently working towards the implementation of a novel suicide prevention program tailored to veterans. I am fully committed to supporting their noble endeavor and will be working with him to explore all viable avenues, including grants and legislative initiatives, to ensure their success.
I also presented a memorial resolution to Lilly Butler’s family at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds for her celebration of life. Through her 17 years, Lilly’s accomplishments reverberated deeply within our community, leaving an irreplaceable void. At just 17, Lilly was an accomplished athlete, a cherished daughter, sister, friend, and esteemed Calaveras County’s 2021 Rodeo Queen. We honor her legacy.
March 6th marked Black Balloon Day, a reminder of the tragic toll exacted by opioid overdoses. My colleague, Senator Tom Umberg, brought on this designation as we continue to confront opioid addiction within our communities. Of particular concern to me is the proliferation of fentanyl. Within Senate District 4, we have witnessed an alarming surge in fentanyl-related fatalities. If you or someone you know are struggling with substance abuse, please call the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention hotline at: (800) 662-HELP (4357). If you are experiencing a mental health or substance-related crisis, please call 911 or call/text the 988 crisis helpline.
