Slain Officer Gonzalo Carrasco killed by Gang Member out on Early Release through AB 109

On January 31, 24-year-old Selma Police Officer, Gonzalo Carrasco, was shot down in cold blood by convicted felon, Nathaniel Dixon, who was out on early release due to the provisions of Assembly Bill 109.  Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (SD4) and Assemblyman Juan Alanis (AD22) are uniting together to review the egregious oversights resulting from AB 109, which allowed convicted felon and gang member, Nathaniel Dixon out on early release after serving just 5 months of 5 year, 4 month sentence.

In April 2011, The California Legislature and Governor Brown passed sweeping public safety legislation with Assembly Bill 109 establishing the California Public Safety Realignment Act of 2011. AB109 allows for current non-violent, non-serious, and non-sex offenders to be supervised at the local county level, reporting to a county probation officer, instead of reporting to state parole officers.

“Our hearts are broken by the Nathaniel Dixon should have been in prison until 2027.
