Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil Works with State Legislature to Approve Budget Package Benefiting Senate District 4

SACRAMENTO – The California State Legislature has approved a comprehensive budget package that includes funding allocations to Senate District 4. These funds are directed toward higher education, public safety, missing and murdered indigenous people (MMIP) initiatives, and wildlife resources.

Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (D-Jackson) voted in support of many of the bills, highlighting the critical resources allocated to key areas within the district. "This budget reflects our commitment to addressing the needs of our communities, from protecting our natural resources to ensuring the safety of our residents," said Senator Alvarado-Gil.

Key budget allocations include:

AB 108 – Budget Act of 2024

  • $600,000 for the Wolf-Livestock Compensation Program: Appropriated to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, this funding was a specific request from Senator Alvarado-Gil and will help mitigate the impact of wolf attacks on livestock in Senate District 4.
  • $17.25 million for the MMIP Grant Program: Allocated to the Board of State and Community Corrections, these funds will support efforts to address the crisis of missing and murdered indigenous people.
  • $3.8 million to the Tahoe Conservancy: This funding will support environmental conservation and preservation efforts within the Tahoe region.

AB 155 – Higher Education Budget Trailer Bill

  • $18,850,000 for California State University, Stanislaus: This investment will enhance educational opportunities and resources for students, supporting the growth and development of higher education in the region.

AB 168 – Public Safety

  • $7,128,745 for county probation departments: Allocated collectively across Senate District 4, this funding will strengthen public safety by supporting local probation departments in their crucial work.

Senator Alvarado-Gil represents the 4th Senate District including the Counties of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne.
