Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil secures additional state budget funding, granting the Calaveras County Animal Shelter a $200,000 check

SAN ANDREAS, CA Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil has successfully secured an additional $1.3 million in funding for Senate District 4 during the second round of review for the California State Budget. This funding includes $200,000 for the Calaveras County Animal Services agency to enhance their facilities. This one-time funding will enable the shelter to keep up with their demands by making necessary upgrades.

On September 22nd, the Senator paid a visit to the Calaveras County Animal Shelter accompanied by staff, volunteer members, and Calaveras County Supervisor Martin Huberty. During the tour, Senator Alvarado-Gil personally observed a need for facility improvements that will now be made possible by the $200,000 allocation.

Calaveras County Supervisor Huberty shared, "I was so happy to get the opportunity to meet the Senator at our annual Frog Jump Jubilee this past May. She was incredibly affable, attentive and a great listener. We spoke about the needs of our outdated County Animal Shelter. She immediately gave me the confidence she could help and that she wanted to visit. True to her word she showed up last Friday and toured our shelter facility. Not only did she show up but she brought a huge check that's kicked off our fund raising in a big way! She's true to her word and has injected a lot of hope into our community.  Thank you Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil!"

A member of the Friends of Calaveras Animal Services Board, Debby Beaufort, shared…the shelter dedicates more than 600 hours every month towards the care and service of dogs, with an additional 100 or more hours for cats. Additionally, the staff and volunteer roster of 60 individuals show the community and team's passion for providing a safe haven for these animals as they await their permanent homes.

After visiting the Calaveras County Animal Shelter, Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil expressed her deep admiration for the community's unwavering commitment to improving the lives of animals. As an animal rescuer and service animal advocate herself, she commends the shelter for their outstanding efforts in providing top-notch protection, education, and services to their animals. With the funding provided, she is confident that the shelter will embark on a promising journey towards positive change.
