Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil Secures $1 Million Funding for Placerville Joint Public Safety Facility

PLACERVILLE, CA — In a significant development for the safety and well-being of Placerville’s first responders, Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil presented a $1 million check today to the El Dorado County Fire Protection District (EDCFPD) to fund the highly anticipated Placerville Joint Public Safety Facility. The funding will be instrumental in kick starting the initial project costs for acquiring land and site design and preparation.

This achievement follows Senator Alvarado-Gil’s visit to Station 25 in Placerville earlier this year to witness firsthand the challenging conditions faced by firefighters due to the outdated infrastructure. During the tour, Senator Alvarado-Gil gained valuable insights into the poor state of the station and learned about the direct impacts on firefighter health, safety, and morale.

Fire Protection District Chief Tim Cordero detailed the risks of cancer stemming from facility deficiencies and also shed light on the fire district's visionary Joint Public Safety Facility project. The proposed project, in collaboration with the City of Placerville, aims to replace Fire Station 25 and the city's police station at a new location within city limits.

In a statement, Senator Alvarado-Gil said, "My visit to Station 25 in February was a stark reminder of the challenging conditions our brave first responders endure daily. Their dedication to our community's safety deserves our utmost support. I am proud to have secured $1 million in funding for the Placerville Joint Public Safety Facility, a critical step towards ensuring our first responders have the resources and facilities they need to carry out their duties effectively."

The Placerville Joint Public Safety Facility project represents a milestone in bolstering local public safety infrastructure and reinforcing the Senator's commitment to collaborative solutions that directly impact the well-being of communities.

Senator Alvarado-Gil represents the 4th Senate District including the Counties of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne.
