A Recap of Advocacy, Achievements, and Honors

It was a packed house at the Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and Environment (TuCARE) Annual Dinner and Auction, thank you to all who came out! I met so many great people who are doing strong work in forestry and in the environmental sector. I will continue to fight and be your voice as I prioritize wildfire mitigation, insurance rates, agriculture, water infrastructure, and other significant issues that matter most to my communities.

Senate Bill 1028 passed onto the Senate Appropriations Committee! I presented the bill this week at the Governmental Organizations Committee, acknowledging my districts in rural California are facing challenges with the demand and supply of the Type 47 liquor licenses. South Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and Mammoth Mountain collectively draw in over 16 million visitors annually. My bill would generate more jobs and money to support a thriving economy in these rural communities. Read more about SB 1028.

March is Women’s History Month — a month to celebrate and recognize every woman who has paved the way to create a legacy of strength and perseverance. In honor of this recognition, I proudly recognize Merita Calloway of Calaveras County as Senate District 4’s 2024 Woman of the Year. As Calaveras County’s Supervisor Emeritus, Merita is known as the longest-running female county supervisor in California. She has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to her role. Her tireless efforts have addressed critical issues such as education, healthcare, and environmental conservation, making her a true advocate for her constituents.

As Chair of the Human Services Committee, I know there is a great need for in-home care service providers across the state. With an impending rise in aging and disabled individuals, we must have a robust care system in effect to ensure everyone receives top-tier care and is treated with the dignity and grace they deserve. Thank you to the California Homecare Association for inviting me to speak at your meeting, and a special thank you to Visiting Angels of Cameron Park (go SD 4!) for attending and informing us about the vital role they play in providing compassionate care to those who need it the most.
