Happy Friday‚ Senate District 4!

I am excited to announce the introduction of my 2024 Legislative Bill package- this year‚ I am authoring 15 bills and co-authoring 33 bills. This legislation package addresses pressing issues that will significantly impact Senate District 4 and California as a whole. You can learn more about these bills here.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) held two virtual meetings this week to discuss AT&T’s decision to withdraw “Plain Old Telephone Service” as the Carrier of Last Resort (COLR). This decision poses a significant threat to many rural communities‚ including those in our district‚ which heavily rely on this service. With challenges including power outages‚ wildfires‚ and limited connectivity‚ the withdrawal of this service could endanger the lives of residents in rural and disadvantaged communities. We must find solutions to ensure their communication needs are met during critical moments.

Have you noticed an increase in your PG&E bill this year? The CPUC recently approved another rate hike‚ set to take effect this April. This decision follows a previous rate hike of 13% in January. Your feedback is crucial - please share how much your bill has increased since January.

I celebrated California Ag Day at the Capitol‚ as I take immense pride in representing Senate District 4‚ where agriculture serves as a cornerstone of our state’s thriving food economy. Did you know that California has 43 million acres dedicated to farming? In our district alone‚ farmers and ranchers contribute nearly $10 billion annually to our economy across 13 counties. I want to extend my gratitude to the eleven farm bureaus across my district for their advocacy for our agriculture community.

Although the Legislature is observing Spring Recess this next week‚ I remain active in the community and I am committed to pushing for better legislation and policies to address the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) in California. In collaboration with Assemblyman James C. Ramos‚ Chair of the Native American Caucus‚ we are proud to announce the 10-day statewide Tribal Listening Tour across nine counties during recess.
