Battling the release of Sexually Violent Predators

What a week it has been advocating for our children and families in the district‚ and navigating my bills‚ SB 1261(more money for fairs) and SB 1088 (investment in water infrastructure)‚ through the Legislature in Sacramento.
My team led a press conference in Turlock with Stanislaus County law enforcement and the district attorney’s office to STRONGLY OPPOSE the release of Sexually Violent Predators Kevin Gray and Timothy Weathers into our community. Gray and Weathers are a danger to our children‚ and it is unacceptable that Liberty Healthcare‚ a third party contractor with the state‚ deems either of them eligible for release‚ even though a clinical psychologist with the Department of State Hospitals warned that Gray is “highly likely” to offend. Not on my watch.

Senate Bill 268 (Violent felonies: rape) will be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee on Tuesday‚ July 2nd. Anabel Velasquez‚ a survivor of sexual assault‚ will be sharing her powerful story to illustrate the dire need for legislation.

Senate Bill 1261 (Fairs: allocation of funds) passed the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee this week. This bill will allocate additional funds to our fairgrounds‚ which are more than just venues for fairs–they are vital evacuation centers and base camps for first responders during catastrophic incidents‚ such as the recent Aero Fire in Calaveras County.
Senate Bill 1088 (OES: water infrastructure) also passed the Assembly Emergency Management Committee this week. In the last decade‚ California’s rural communities have become ground zero for large-scale environmental and economical devastation due to wildfires. Investing in resources to create a robust wildfire defense system and protect our communities is overdue.
The prosperity of rural communities continues to be one of my top priorities. I’m ensuring their priorities are reflected in this year’s climate bond. By earmarking funds for initiatives to include water storage‚ watershed infrastructure protection and improvements‚ water efficiency upgrades‚ and wildfire resilience and forest management.

#TeamAlvaradoGil Honors the Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) I am a proud supporter of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics; the LETR is the largest public awareness and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics‚ building acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities. My team recognized our many partner agencies who took part in carrying the “Flame of Hope”‚ including the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office‚ El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office‚ CHP Placerville‚ Placerville Police‚ and South Lake Tahoe Police. California Tahoe Conservancy Celebrates Acquiring 31 Acres of Environmentally Sensitive Land My team presented the California Tahoe Conservancy with a resolution to commend their historic acquisition of 31 acres of environmentally sensitive land. This effort‚ in collaboration with the California Wildlife Conservation Board‚ the Department of Fish and Wildlife‚ and other partners‚ is a major step forward in protecting our precious water quality and local wildlife habitat. Congratulations to the Conservancy and all involved in making this vision a reality. |
