Advancing Communities Throughout Senate District 4

A Week of Engagement, Advocacy, and Collaboration for Progress

This week, my team and I engaged in a series of meetings with various organizations, stakeholders, and leaders across Senate District 4. As I always do, I leaned in with a listening ear while discussing crucial matters impacting our communities.

I had the privilege of presenting a certificate of recognition to Tammatha Foss, the newly appointed Undersecretary for the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation. Our conversation underscored the importance of facilitating successful transitions from incarceration to civilian life. I emphasized the pivotal role of education and innovative reintegration strategies.

I also met with members of the Yurok Tribe to address the pressing issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP), following on the heels of last week’s events organized by multiple Native tribes and the Native American Legislative Caucus. We all must recognize that Indigenous communities face disproportionate challenges including poverty, housing insecurity, and violence, exacerbating their vulnerability to disappearance and violence. California, with its substantial Native American population, ranks fifth in MMIP cases nationwide. Initiatives like the $24 million MMIP budget allocation and the passage of legislation including AB 3099, AB 1314, and AB 44 underscore our commitment to addressing this crisis comprehensively.

Providing affordable, quality education for our future leaders is an important issue for me. I met Susan Borrego, the Interim President of California State University Stanislaus, along with her Student Body President, Adrian Sanchez to learn more about how the university addresses these issues and enhances the student experience.

Thank you for your continued support as I keep pushing the pressing needs of our district here in Sacramento.
