Senator Alvarado-Gil announces $29 million in funding through CAL FIRE's Forest Health Program

Senator Alvarado-Gil has helped to secure $29 million through CAL FIRE for several wildfire-related projects throughout Senate District 4. These investments will help regions devastated by wildfires in the past and support various initiatives toward wildfire prevention.

The successful projects include efforts to help with recovery and reforestation growth in areas impacted by the Rim, Caldor, and Mosquito fires. The treated areas will be resilient to natural disturbances, fostering long-term carbon sequestration, timber products, healthy watersheds, and a forest dependent wildlife habitat.

Additionally, funds were awarded to the American River Conservancy and Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority to help reduce fuel and implement ecological forestry management to promote healthy forests and watersheds while reducing catastrophic wildfire risk.

"I am proud to help support these much-needed and important wildfire mitigation and restoration projects in my district. We must continue to support wildfire recovery in areas that recent fires have impacted and take the lessons learned to bolster investments in prevention efforts through proper forestry management," stated Alvarado-Gil.

Richard Sykes, Executive Director of the Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority, expressed his gratitude: "We are extremely grateful to Senator Alvarado-Gil for her support and dedication in ensuring we receive the much-needed funding to reduce excess surface fuels in our watershed."
