Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil Announces $1.5 Million in Funding for Facility Upgrades at the Amador County Fairgrounds

State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil is pleased to announce the investment of $1,500,000 in funding through the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Fairground and Community Resilience Centers Program. The allocation will upgrade the kitchen facilities and multipurpose concession stands at the Amador County Fairgrounds.

The primary purpose of the Fairground and Community Resilience Centers program is to enhance the community and fairground infrastructure to bolster emergency preparedness in response to climate change.

“The allocation of this funding is an essential step towards strengthening our emergency preparedness capabilities, especially as weather-related disasters continue to pose unprecedented threats to the well-being of our communities,” stated Alvarado-Gil, a Joint Committee on Fairs Allocation member. “This strategic investment will improve these facilities to equip ourselves better to support emergency evacuation shelters and response efforts when we need them the most.”

Frank Halverson, Amador County Fair Board Member, expressed his appreciation for the funding, stating, “We are grateful for this award, which serves as a testament to our vital role within the community and an acknowledgment of the infrastructure improvements necessary to support our efforts. Our commitment to providing a superior experience for everyone, whether seeking refuge from weather-related emergencies or simply looking to enjoy what the fair offers, is unwavering. With this funding, we can continue to raise the bar and uphold our high standards.“

The CDFA received a total appropriation of over $150 million to support resiliency projects at fairgrounds and other community locations throughout the state. The projects support the infrastructure for emergency evacuation shelters and base camps during catastrophic events.
